SATAWU ON PUTCO SUSPENDING ITS SERVICES
The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) notes that Putco has suspended its services as a result of unpaid subsidy by the Gauteng Provincial Government responsible for roads and Transport. The bus company suspended its services Thursday morning (04th May 2023) It is indeed very unfortunate that more than 200 000 commuters will be left stranded and inconvenienced for the next couple of day, considering that there are those commuters who bought weekly and monthly tickets.
We welcome the commitment and the positive response by the Gauteng Department of Transport that the payments will be made on Monday, however we are hopeful that the payments are made before Monday to avoid further suspension.
SATAWU wishes to state that as much as our members and workers are not affected by suspension of at the bus company, the union is rather more concerned about the poor and the working class as they rely more on these services to and from their destinations in the province.
The South African Transport and Allied Workers has full confidence in the Gauteng Department of Transport, and we strongly believe that such will never happen again. We will be monitoring the developments as they unfold between the two parties.
