SOWETAN MISLEADING AND MALICIOUS ARTICLE

SOWETAN MISLEADING AND MALICIOUS ARTICLE

The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union has noted the misleading and malicious article by the Sowetan. The Newspaper has deliberately published false information that can

cause damage to the organisation. Sowetan has published that the President of COSATU, Cde Zingiswa Losi is a member of SATAWU. We wish to state that Comrade President Losi is not and has never been a member of SATAWU. President Losi is a Shop steward of the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru).

The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union will not entertain this article as it seeks division in the organisation. We do not know the agenda behind this misleading information.

The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union supports and believes in the freedom of speech, expression, and free and fair journalism. The article came as a shock to us, and it is very biased. The media house did not seek clarity in any form in the organisation. This kind of journalism is very low and it can cause serious divisions in the organisation. The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union will always be available to attend to members of the media.

SATAWU will this weekend (23rd -24th September) hold its Central Executive Committee meeting in Polokwane, Limpopo. The united leadership of the organisation will hold its CEC just a few days before COSATU holds its congress which will take place from the 26th- 29th of September 2022. The Union will be discussing its stance, submissions, and resolutions in the upcoming congress. The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union will then communicate the outcomes of that meeting. It is worth noting that the Union has clarified its stance through its NOBs that it has no intention to contest any position in Cosatu as its leadership is focused on rebuilding SATAWU.

The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union demands a public apology from the Sowetan Newspapers as the article is far from the truth.
