South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (SATAWU) would like to congratulate Minister of Transport, Dipuo Peters, for acting speedily and installing an interim board at the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa).
It is our belief that this move will serve commuters, the majority of whom are the poorest of the poor, well.
In our assessment, the interim board is constituted of men and women with substantial experience in corporate governance, financial management, legal and labour matters. We believe this is a good combination of expertise to take the organisation forward and ensure it is operating at an optimal level. We think this board will prove that good corporate governance is not about vengeance or revenge but about setting up structures to ensure the organisation is well-managed and accountable to the various stakeholders.
We wish the interim board well in the task that lies ahead and look forward to engaging them on issues that affect workers and the public at large.
