International Office

The major role of this office is to establish and coordinate SATAWU relations with other unions that cater for the sectors of transport, security and cleaning.

We promote solidarity with comrades from other countries within the African continent and outside. These would be in promotion for instance of democracy or gender equity. It would also be an exchange of experiences and skills.

"First of all we reregistered with ITF after our membership had lapsed during our time as SAHRU. This was a huge boost to our international image and we now are fully entrenched in the structures of the ITF and as such some of our comrades hold important positions at the ITF," Zico explained.

SATAWU has even hosted events on behalf of the ITF such the ITF World Rail Conference which was the first of its kind on African soil. Next year we expect to host the World Congress of the ITF.

Furthermore this office has helped SATAWU forge close links with comrades from Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Australia, Great Britain, Germany and Canada.

Media Office:

This office generates copy that goes to media to give publicity to SATAWU activities. It is the newest of SATAWU's eight departments having been established in April. The department counts among its successes the establishment of the website, the SATAWU magazine and the relative ease with which media access information about this union.
This also helps the general membership know that their union of choice has its thumb on the pulse. In the near future we envisage that this consistent media offensive will translate into growth in membership.
