Your letter dated 4th October 2022 with the heading Notice of impending strike action refers.
- On the 3rd October 2022, we served Transnet with the forty-eight hours (48) notice for strike that will commence on Monday the 10th October 2022.
- When you calculate the days, we have complied with the seven (7) days period before we commence strike.
- As the result the notice period is in accordance with the LRA and all applicable legislations.
- We have balloted our members on all offers made by Transnet, and majority of our members are in favour of the strike.
- We have sent the Transnet Bargaining Council Picketing rules, we are open to engaging Transnet on the same rules.
- All Transnet employees are not essential workers, and they are allowed by the law to go on a protected strike. However, you may share with us the legislation and or agreement that designated some employees as essential workers.
- As SATAWU we dispute any material procedural irregularities regarding the processes we followed in serving the notice to strike.
- Therefore, our strike is legal, and will commence on Monday the 10 October 2022 as arranged.
