SATAWU Welcomes Appointment of Transnet Group Executive

February 3, 2020Zanele SabelaPress Releases, RailNo comments

South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) welcomes the appointment of Portia Derby as Group Chief Executive of Transnet.

Derby’s appointment was recommended by the Transnet Board and supported by Cabinet after a rigorous selection process.

She brings with her extensive experience having worked at the Department of Public Enterprises as Director General during Thabo Mbeki’s presidency and as chief operating officer at the Department of Trade and Industry. SATAWU hopes she will be able to leverage her history in government to continue with the task at hand with minimal interference from the shareholder.

SATAWU is encouraged by Derby’s utterances that is she ready to clean up the rot at Transnet. We look forward to working with her and assisting her in whatever way we can.
