SATAWU Signs Transnet Multi-year Wage Agreement

April 12, 2018Zanele SabelaFreight and Goods Transport, Press Releases, RailNo comments

South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (SATAWU) signed a wage agreement at the Transnet Bargaining Council today.

SATAWU held its ground and convinced management to up its offer to 7.1% across the board (ATB) for each of the three years of the agreement.

Management had initially offered ATB of 6.5% for Year 1, 7.5% for Year 2 and 7.75% for the final year.

Medical subsidy and the housing allowance will increase to R1 392, 1 491 and R1 597 per month for each of the respective years.

The agreement includes a no forced retrenchments clause for the duration of the agreement and is valid for the period 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2021. The wage increase will be reflected in the end April salary run.

All parties were pleased to have been involved in these relatively smooth wage talks that started late last year and produced a settlement on deadline.
